The legal minimum is $35,000 for one person's injuries, $70,000 for all injuries in one crash, and $25,000 for property damage — written as 35/70/25.

These are the standard-policy minimums that took effect January 1, 2026. New Jersey also offers a lower-cost basic policy with different terms.

If the other driver is at fault and carries only the minimum, their policy stops at those amounts. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is what pays you beyond that.
